On the eve eve of a brand-new year, I thought it might be kind of cool/sweet/fun/weird to take a look back at the top 10 posts on littlewordstudio.com in 2016. (My conclusion after perusing the list: You guys are all about J.K. Rowling, Disney movies and food, so yes, I’m stoked we’re on the same page.)
Also before we dive into the posts, I just want to take a second and thank anyone and everyone who took the time to read my little words this year. Your support means everything to me; it keeps my pen moving across the page, my fingers clicking on the keyboard and my passion for writing alive. I do what I do because of you. End of story.
And now, here are the 10 most popular 2016 posts to scamper around the little word studio world in 2016:
J.K. Rowling on Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
Is there any limit to the bounds of J.K. Rowling’s imagination? As prolific as she is creative, Rowling conjures up her first big-studio foray into screenwriting with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them … and the result hardly disappoints.
J.K. Rowling’s Detective Series Names Its Leading Man
The Cuckoo’s Calling, the first of three novels in a detective series penned by J.K. Rowling—writing as Robert Galbraith—centers on private investigator Cormoran Strike, a perpetually disheveled, grizzly bear of a man. In the BBC adaption of the series, renowned heartthrob Tom Burke will take on the bedraggled P.I. Can the debonaire and dashing Burke do it? You decide.
Beauty and the Beast is Already the Biggest Movie of 2017
True life: I’m obsessed with Beauty and the Beast, and luckily for my late-twenties-self, it’s an obsession shared by pretty much the entire world. How do I know? When the live-action trailer for the upcoming movie came out, it broke the Internet faster than a Kim Kardashian selfie wrapped in pictures of puppies and dreams.
Mary Poppins Returns: Here’s Everything We Know So Far
If ever there was a time to grab your spoon and get it loaded full of sugar, today would be the day. Why? Because Mary Poppins is flying her petite yet practical umbrella back into town. Back in June, Disney told us Mary Poppins Returns will hit theaters December 25, 2018.
Colorado Man Says He Is ‘Deeply Troubled’ by Recent Facebook Post
Do they like me? Do they really, really like me? (Spoiler alert: No. Or at least not on Facebook, anyway.)
Famed Costume Designer Luke Reichle On Art, Fashion and Sartorial Storytelling
In which I talk to brilliant costume designer/fine artist Luke Reichle and in re-reading his answers to my questions while creating this post, sense his creative, electric energy with such fervent palpability, it practically buzzes off my computer screen and makes me feel all sorts of inspired …
WRDSMTH: A Conversation With The Street Art Scribe
Good writers aspire to greatness. Great writers aspire to instill greatness upon others. Such is the case with Los Angeles-based street artist WRDSMTH, whose work can be seen everywhere from electrical boxes in Venice, CA to the cobbled walkways of Shoreditch, London. A Robin Hood of painted prose, WRDSMTH steals from his rich imagination and gives to poorly lit walls at dawn, when the streets are quiet, the city still sleeps and he can spray paint his iconic messages of hope, joy, love and inspiration (mostly) undisturbed.
10 Chefs to Follow … To the Ends of the Earth
The foodie world is so large and yet, thanks to Instagram, so very small. Scottish langoustines can be seen from Prague to Oklahoma; a Tuscan heirloom tomato’s swirling reddish colors can be viewed by epicurean eyes in France. Or Switzerland. Or Thailand. Or from Aunt Edna’s basement where you’re currently sleeping on a half-tattered couch because rent is cheap and you’re in that “between jobs” phase.
Lehrerboys: A Conversation on Creativity, Censorship and Just Getting It Done
My heart is officially broken, split in two between a pair of identical twins named Daniel and Jeremy Lehrer. Sigh. The boys, a duo better known as @lehrerboys on Instagram and Facebook, crank out cartoons that are so clever, you’ll instantaneously fall in love with their creations then wonder what life was like before their colorful comics galavanted across your feed each day. (Answer: unfunny and a total bore.)
10 Street Artists To Follow … To The Ends Of The Earth
No longer is street art performed under the cloak of darkness, spray paint in hand, by talented artists whose work isn’t just revolutionary, it’s downright illegal. These days, cities commission street artists to brighten up buildings and parks with their creations and the result, the official crosswalk of art and public space, is mind-blowingly incredible.
