It’s well past midnight. You’re in bed, dreaming of Piña Coladas and getting caught in the rain when you first hear it. A noise. An eek-eek-eek. Maybe you imagined it, a phantom sound that never was. But then it happens again. Eek-eek-eek. Eek-eek-eek. Could your tap-dancing upstairs neighbor be getting in a late-night practice? No, that doesn’t seem right. She’s off camping in Yosemite. Eek-eek-eek. Eek-eek. The sound is getting louder, closer … It’s definitely something weird, no doubt something strange … So, who you gonna call?
I mean, call your landlord if you want but a strong Option No. 2: Ghostbusters. And after you do ring ’em up, I highly suggest you pop your collar, step-tap to the beat and say it with me: I ain’t afraid of no ghosts.
Even if you don’t find yourself in a Ghostbusters-worthy scenario this week, there’s ample reason to commend the apparition-abolishers because June 8 is officially Ghostbusters Day and Sony Pictures has released an incredibly specific list of ways you can celebrate. Because I adore you so, I’m summarizing the whole thing here:
The original Ghostbusters gang will unite with the Ghostbusters, class of 2016. Set against the backdrop of The Jimmy Kimmel Show, stars of the upcoming Ghostbusters remake (hitting theaters July 15, 2016) including, Melissa McCarthy, Kristin Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones will no doubt do something hilarious and Ghost-themed as they banter with the cast of the 1984 classic: Annie Potts, Ernie Hudson, Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray. (Notably, all four of the latter names are also listed on the casting page for the 2016 reboot, so it’s really the old-new meeting the new-new but that doesn’t sound as sexy for ratings.)

The movie will be screened in more than 800 theaters across the U.S. If you want to experience the magic all over again when three three out-of-work parapsychology professors take on the spirits that be, you can. This exclusive July 8 screening also includes a sneak peek of the new film.
The cool kids in Brooklyn are organizing some sort of cool-kids screening thing and calling it Ghostbusters HQ, which also seems cool. BBQ Films is putting on a three-day Ghostbusters festival in a huge warehouse in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The event starts June 8 so bring your skinny jeans and your proton pack then click here and also here for ticket info.
Sony Pictures is holding a sweepstakes and calling it the Ghostbusters Twitter Mission Sweepstakes. Though details are scant, the studio did say it will “award prizes, including custom Ghostbusters uniforms,” each week until July 15, when the film is set to hit theaters. Winning authentic Ghostbusters gear for a retweet, you say? In.
That’s it. All the official ways we know about to celebrate Ghostbusters Day June 8. Now you know exactly what to do … but do you know who to call?
