Red Cross
What they do: Work alongside partners and local officials to make sure people have a safe place to say and comfort. Volunteers are helping at many temporary evacuation points (sites dedicated to directing evacuees to the best sheltering option for their individual needs), getting wildfire evacuees checked in and identifying what help they may need. On Wednesday night, the Red Cross along with partners provided over 5,600 people with safe refuge from the wildfires in emergency lodgings, including shelters and hotels. More than 800 Red Cross disaster workers are helping evacuees cope, both on the ground and virtually. This includes replacing prescription medications, eyeglasses or other medical equipment.
