Here’s what I wore to the gym tonight: black yoga pants and an old Ricky Martin concert tee circa 1990-whatever.
Here’s what I didn’t wear: a top hat.
My mistake.
Why? Because apparently, along with being the go-to headwear for magicians everywhere, top hats are also worn by people with so much creativity inside them it literally needs a top hat or else it’ll explode from their heads and leave the atmosphere, sky-rocketing straight to another world (or something).
Case in point, Amy Sherman-Palladino, writer, producer and director best known as the luminous creator of Gilmore Girls, also the woman single-handedly responsible for putting the cool in a hot cup of coffee. (Her story about how she came up with the idea for Gilmore Girls is a total classic. “Uh, a mom and her daughter who are more like best friends?” She sheepishly pitched to Warner Brothers executives. “Yep,” they agreed and so Stars Hollow got its stars.)
But back to top hats … Amy is most often photographed with a fashionable chapeau faultlessly slanted above her short, jet-black hair and that’s good news for us fans of the show who don’t want any of her brilliant literary quips or slick, pop culture one-liners to escape anywhere but from the lips of our beloved Gilmore Girls cast.
Today it was revealed that Melissa McCarthy is making a triumphant return to the Gilmore Girls set—”Literally about an hour and a half ago, we figured out that I’m going to go back and do it,” she said on Ellen this morning.
Amy had told Entertainment Weekly months before in a plea sent out into the universe that she hoped Melissa would join the Gilmore Girls Netflix reboot because she already had detailed plans for the Emmy award-winning comedienne’s effervescent character, Sookie St. James. “I’ll pre-light [the scene] for her,” Sherman-Palladino joked (but not really). “She can drive up, run in, shoot it, and run out.”
So even if Melissa’s cameo was more scheduling conflicts unconflicted than it was divine inspiration, I like to think that Amy Sherman-Palladino asked the universe and it indeed answered. I just wonder if she has a top hat picked out for the occasion.

Aw, this was an exceptionally nice post. Finding the time and actual effort
to produce a top notch article… but what can I say… I put things off a
lot and don’t manage to get nearly anything done.
